Fort Wayne, IN: Courageous Healing is pleased to announce it has received a $50,000 grant as part of United Way of Allen County and Indiana United Ways Emergency Relief Fund, with funding provided by Lilly Endowment Inc. United Way of Allen County created the Emergency Relief Fund to rapidly deploy resources to community-based organizations working with individuals impacted by the economic consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak, related closures, and disruptions.

Grants fund organizations and programs with strong experience working to support immediate basic needs and economic stability. Since the pandemic, access to mental health services for BIPOC became especially critical as the coronavirus disproportionately impacted BIPOC communities at disturbingly high rates. Courageous Healing specializes in culturally centered mental health services and aligns its services with the unique challenges that BIPOC communities experience, such as the stigma of mental illness, distrust of systems, lack of culturally competent providers, and lack of adequate insurance.

Courageous Healing opened its doors in Southeast Fort Wayne in May 2021 with a team of seven therapists of color offering individual, couples, and family therapy as well as the therapeutic psychoeducational group MAMAS. This year, in addition to its focus on stabilizing while meeting key objectives, Courageous Healing is getting ready to launch three therapeutic psychoeducational groups at no cost to individuals and families in Allen County Takin' It to The Couch, Beyond the Mirror, and Family Enrichment Sessions.

The organization, which already offered therapy on a sliding fee scale, will be able to offer six therapy sessions at no cost for individuals and families who are uninsured, underinsured, and who demonstrate financial need in Allen County.

To apply for six therapy sessions at no cost, applicants must be able to:

  • Submit a sliding fee scale application at courageoushealing.org/sliding-fee-application

  • Provide proof of income, unemployment, or circumstance verification contact
