Courageous Healing Inc. Receives Grant From The St. Joseph Community Health Foundation for $25,000.00

July 10, 2020

Courageous Healing Inc. is pleased to announce it has received a $25,000.00 grant from the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation. These funds will help offset the cost of providing Restorative Trauma Intervention Groups and counseling services for low-income individuals and families and to support a portion of operations necessary to meet the increasing demands.

Restorative Trauma Intervention (RTI) Groups are not therapy, but are psycho-education groups designed to support clients who have experienced trauma in gaining awareness of the impact on their lives, relationships, mental/emotional health, and physical well-being. Participants identify trauma triggers, develop coping and self-regulatory skills, and begin the process of healing by connecting with additional resources and developing the language to ask for needed support. Restorative Family Interventions (RFI's) help families gain awareness, while uprooting family secrets, strongholds, and generational curses with support, in order to disrupt unhealthy family dynamics, learn new adaptive coping techniques, and to revive the hope and cohesiveness necessary to move forward. Restorative Interventions are not intended to replace therapy, but to merely increase awareness of maladaptive coping techniques, interactional patterns, and needed change, while affirming the experiences of clients, increasing motivation, and providing the tools to move forward toward self-actualization and purpose.

Trinity English Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana has graciously provided Courageous Healing with space to host RTI Groups and assistance with refreshments for participants. Co-founder and Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Janell Lane stated, “Trauma and unresolved mental health concerns have plagued our community for years. There is also a need for mental health care that is culturally-centered, not just culturally tolerant. Minority populations face unique experiences and traumas that often leave them feeling isolated, ostracized, or misunderstood in traditional group settings, where they are truly the minority. Our culturally-centered groups provide added safety and shared experiences which aid our clients in pursuing healing in ways that feel authentic for them.” Courageous Healing, Inc. will also offer culturally-centered individual, family, & group services in the near future.
